What Is Nonsurgical Vaginal Rejuvenation and Why Is It Done?

Entrepreneur Patrick Ridgeway is a managing partner for a New Orleans-based pharmaceutical firm. A graduate of the University of Mississippi, Patrick Ridgeway currently focuses on women's health and related procedures, such as genetic testing for breast cancer and non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation.

A noninvasive medical technique, non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation commonly makes use of radio frequency (RF) or laser treatments to address issues that affect the female genitalia. Both methods utilize heat to increase the production of collagen, which improves tissue elasticity. However, while RF treatment often have immediate results, laser treatment can take up to a month. There are other forms of non-surgical treatments as well, including injectable fillers and hormone treatments.

These treatments are often performed to address conditions caused by hormonal changes, aging, or events such as childbirth. These can include a decrease in vaginal elasticity and/or lubrication; urinary incontinence; a decrease in sensation; and a loss of tone in the labia majora or other areas of the female genitalia.
